About

Dr. Christina M. Charlotin

My therapeutic style is based on my belief that we do have the power to create healthy emotions & dismantle unwanted emotions that do not serve us. When meeting with you, I'll want to understand how your ongoing circumstances, emotions, behaviors, or thoughts impact the overall outcomes in your life. I base my treatment on evidenced-based inventions, eastern & wellness perspectives, and a conscious awareness approach geared towards creating intrinsic & extrinsic progress. Your progress may include improved relationships, increased motivation, stronger sense of self-value, greater career & academic success, a reduction of painful & distress inducing emotions or unwanted behaviors.

Together, we’ll work towards understanding both the nature of your unwanted emotions & the recurrence of your unfavorable experiences. We’ll discuss what you’d gain, what you’d keep, & what you’d choose to no longer experience. With that information, we'll create and work towards your version of happiness.

Compared to many other psychologists, my therapy style may be more goal oriented and with a stronger focus on observing and measuring therapeutic progress as opposed to longer term emotional processing of distant past experiences. I'm very assertive in my therapeutic process. I hold my clients accountable and point out patterns that create and maintain unwanted habits, thoughts, emotions, behaviors or outcomes.

Services

Services are only being provided online or over the phone at this time for both individual therapy or couples therapy.

I'm a big fan of online therapy. I wrote my dissertation on Telehealth back in the mid 2010s when it was still considered to be a fairly controversial mode of therapy. Online therapy tremendously improves access to care. Research has demonstrated that online therapy is just as effective as face-to-face when done in the proper setting (e.g. sitting at a desk or sofa and being on a desktop or laptop, rather than having a video phone session while parked in your car).

I do not provide text therapy. I believe that it's too risky given how easily information could be misinterpreted through text while also providing a greater risk towards confidentiality

Exposure therapy may be the most effective treatment options for certain types of anxiety related challenges such as OCD, social phobia and specific phobias. Exposure

therapy is often provided outside of a traditional office, allowing clients an opportunity to face and overcome anxiety inducing challenges by facing them directly. An example of an exposure session might include me taking a flight with a client who suffers from a phobia of flying. I do miss in-person exposure therapy, but there are many ways that we can still provide this service through remote therapy. When certain exposures cannot be done over technology, our sessions will serve as space to plan and guide the exposures you will be doing on your own in between our sessions.

I’m very excited to announce that I am now offering a therapeutic modality called Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible clients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms.

Ketamine is a legal, safe and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, eating disorders, adjustment disorders, substance use, and chronic pain. When ketamine is taken at a therapeutic dose and in an appropriate setting, it can provide rapidly acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing benefits which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hrs after the first dose.

Chronic stress, repetitive negativistic thinking, and emotional suffering associated with depression and anxiety and other forms of mental illness negatively affects our brain's neuroplasticity. Ketamine can assist in helping to regenerate neural connections in the brain which allows for an improvement in mental flexibility and a stronger influence over our own continuous thinking, emotions and behavioral patterns.
